Aselsan to Export $35 Million Worth of TOLUN Guided Munitions to an Undisclosed Country
ASELSAN, a defense company affiliated with the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV), has signed an export contract with an unnamed foreign customer for TOLUN Guided Munitions and SADAK-4 Smart Quad Racks worth $35,580,000 USD, to be used on Bayraktar AKINCI platforms. With this sale, Aselsan’s TOLUN guided munition achieved its first export success. Current AKINCI operators include Turkey, Pakistan and Libya with upcoming orders from Saudi Arabia.
The development was announced with a post made by Ahmet Akyol, General Manager of ASELSAN, on his X account:
“After the first LGK-83 export contract we signed last month, our game-changing Guided Munitions TOLUN and our Smart Rack SADAK-4T were also contracted to be used in our AKINCIs. We will continue our work with the vision of export-oriented growth.”
Another post on the subject came from BAYKAR CEO Haluk Bayraktar. Bayraktar said, “The export success of our nationally and originally developed UCAV platforms also paves the way for hundreds of companies in the Turkish defense and aviation sector. Congratulations on Tolun’s first export success. I congratulate all the ASELSAN team for their efforts.”
TOLUN was designed by ASELSAN as an integrated GPS/INS guided munition that can be fired from an aircraft via the smart rack and used against both hard and soft ground targets. The munition, which has a range of around 100 km and whose wings are closed before being released from the aircraft, opens after a short time after being released from the aircraft and provides the necessary aerodynamic lift force for the longest range.
With the ability to hit the specified target with high precision and limited secondary damage, it can be utilized efficiently in the destruction of strategic targets in urban warfare and in areas with civilian settlements. TOLUN, which may be utilized effectively against structurally reinforced targets and bunkers, has the ability to penetrate 1-meter-thick pressurized concrete (with 5000 PSI strength) within a range of 55 km and detonate inside the structure.
