BAE Systems Acquires Malloy Aeronautics
On February 2, BAE Systems announced the acquisition of Malloy Aeronautics. Malloy Aeronautics specializes in the development and production of heavy-lift UAVs, supplying civilian and military markets. Malloy offers a range of heavy lift quadcopters, capable of lifting payloads from 68kg to 300kg over short to medium-range missions.
Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Air sector, said:
“Our acquisition of Malloy Aeronautics is part of our ongoing strategy to develop and invest in breakthrough technologies which augment our existing capabilities and provide our customers with the innovation they need in response to evolving requirements. We’re confident that the synergy between our two companies will pave the way for even greater achievements in uncrewed aerial systems and technologies.”
BAE Systems has been cooperating with Malloy Aeronautics since 2021, delivering UAV solutions such as the T-650 heavy-lift drone capable of lifting up to 300kg of load. Last year, the companies announced the successful demonstration of the T-600 electric uncrewed demonstrator during the NATO exercise REPMUS.
Malloy’s Chief Operating Officer, Oriol Badia, said:
“We’ve come a long way over the last ten years, turning our vision of sustainable electric heavy lift technology into reality, thanks to the dedication and efforts of our team. This new step in our journey with BAE Systems will allow us to combine the strengths and vision of a young company with the reach and support of an experienced one, ultimately giving our customers the ability to scale their demands and allow us to deliver innovative new products – including the T-650 – at pace.”
In recent years the company was actively pushing for military adaptation of its products as an alternate means for combat resupply and combat operations. Numerous militaries have shown interest in their systems including the US Marine Corps.
The Malloy Aeronautics’ facility in Berkshire will continue its operations delivering products to customers. Malloy will be one part of BAE’s FalconWorks, their air sector research and development center. BAE intend to expand the company’s portfolio and build towards the introduction of the T-650 UAV in the near future.
