The Philippines Pursues Purchase of 40 Fighter Jets
The Philippines has launched a significant initiative to bolster its defense capabilities, seeking to procure 40 multi-role fighter jets and mid-range missiles, according to reports. One of the critical components of this procurement process is the financing arrangement as the Philippine defensive budget is limited, despite the recent declaration of its raise in 2025. The government has requested that prospective suppliers include financing packages that allow the payments to be spread over several years. This measure is intended to minimize the immediate financial burden on the Philippine economy while securing the much-needed defense upgrades. The financing term will likely cover at least 60% of the useful life of the assets, making it more manageable for the government to fund the deal.
