BAE Systems Awarded $68 Million US Army Contracts For CATVs
BAE Systems has been awarded an additional $20 million award for 2025 funding, as well as $48 million for an existing full-rate production contract awarded in August 2022 for production of Cold Weather All Terrain Vehicles (CATV) for the U.S Army. The additional contract will see production of an additional 44 vehicles. Dean Medland Vice President of Sustainment and International at BAE Systems commented on the deal,
‘We are proud to support additional CATV production for the U.S. Army and are confident that the vehicle’s go-anywhere ability and modular design will meet their future needs, allowing them to carry out a range of missions from military operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.’
He also spoke on the CATV, stating that:
‘The CATV provides a dynamic combination of mobility and flexibility to the U.S. Army enabling rapid response in all terrains.’
BAE’s recent press release further describes the Beowulf,
‘Beowulf is a dual body amphibious vehicle, with the greatest tactical mobility of any vehicle of its class. It boasts proven technology, designed to provide total operational support where other vehicles cannot. It is based upon battle-proven driveline technologies that underpin the BvS10 family of vehicles currently in service worldwide. This outstanding pedigree offers reliability, durability, and high system availability.’
The CATV is part of the BvS10 range and is based upon the unarmored Beowulf variant. The U.S Army choose Beowulf in 2022 to replace the Bv206 for use on Artic operations. Beowulf are currently produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds in Sweden.
A number of variants based on the BvS10 are also produced by BAE including an Ambulance, a version armed with a Remote Weapon Station and and Armoured Personnel Carrier variant. The Beowulf can carry up to 14 personnel and reach speeds of up to 65 km/h with an added amphibious capability along with being able to operate in the some of the most harsh cold-weather conditions. BAE has at the time of writing has produced over 12,000 all terrain vehicles with variants in service around the world.
