Indian MoD Signs Contracts with EEL, MIL & BEL for PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System Ammunition
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed contracts worth ₹10,147 crore ($1.154 billion) with Economic Explosive Limited (EEL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL) for the procurement of advanced rockets for the PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). Under these agreements, EEL will supply Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM) rockets, while MIL will provide High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets. Additionally, a contract has been signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for upgrades in SHAKTI Software. The procurement aims to enhance the Indian Army’s firepower, precision, and operational reach, contributing to the modernization of artillery systems.

The ADM Type-1 (DPICM) and HEPF Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets for the PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) mark a major step in the modernization of the Indian Army’s Artillery Rocket Regiments. The ADM Type-1 (DPICM) rocket is designed with a specialized warhead that releases sub-munitions over a large area, making it highly effective against mechanized forces, vehicles, and enemy personnel. This capability helps in denying specific areas to the enemy, disrupting their movements and operations. On the other hand, the HEPF Mk-1 (Enhanced) rocket is an advanced version of the in-service HEPF rocket, featuring an extended range and improved precision to strike deep into enemy territory with enhanced lethality. These advanced rockets will significantly boost the Indian Army’s firepower, enabling accurate and long-range strikes.
The procurement of ADM Type-1 (DPICM) and HEPF Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets for the PINAKA MLRS not only strengthens India’s defense capabilities but also plays a crucial role in boosting the Indian economy. These projects will create direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially by encouraging Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in component manufacturing. This initiative is a significant step towards modernizing India’s defense infrastructure while promoting self-reliance in military technology. By empowering indigenous industries, these advancements support the Government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
