New Iranian Almas-4: Advanced Long-Range Anti-Tank Missile Technology
The Almas-4 Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) missile is the latest iteration in Iran’s Almas family of anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). This advanced missile is the longest-range version in Iran’s domestically produced Almas missile family, developed as a local alternative to the Israeli Spike series. The Almas-4 NLOS features cutting-edge technology, enabling it to strike distant targets without direct line-of-sight. With its extended range and high precision, the Almas-4 marks a significant step forward in Iran’s defense capabilities.

Iran continues its strategy of reverse engineering and domestic production to overcome international sanctions. The Almas missile series, including the Almas-1, Almas-2, and Almas-3, was developed by replicating the technology of Israeli Spike Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs). Iran has also produced the Badr missile, another system inspired by the Spike series. The latest addition, the Almas-4 NLOS (Non-Line of Sight), demonstrates Iran’s success in replicating the advanced capabilities of the Spike NLOS variant, which can strike targets beyond visual range from multiple platforms. This development marks a major leap in Iran’s long-range missile capabilities. The Almas-4 NLOS (Non-Line of Sight) missile stands out from its predecessors with its extended range and advanced targeting capabilities. Unlike standard line-of-sight missiles, NLOS systems allow operators to strike targets hidden behind obstacles like buildings, forests, or hills. This feature greatly improves battlefield flexibility, making the Almas-4 effective in complex combat environments.
For comparison, the Israeli Spike NLOS, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, has a range of 50 km from helicopters and 32 km from ground platforms. While Iran has not officially confirmed the Almas-4’s range, reports suggest it can reach 25–35 km, making it a serious threat to enemy armored vehicles and high-value targets. The Almas-4 marks a significant step forward in Iran’s long-range missile capabilities, enhancing its defense and deterrence power. The Almas-4 NLOS missile greatly improves Iran’s anti-armor capabilities, enabling strikes on distant enemy targets without direct line of sight. The new missile reportedly uses a top-attack flight profile, which targets the weaker upper armor of enemy tanks and armored vehicles, ensuring maximum penetration and damage.
