This order is part of the U.S. military’s 2025 truck fleet modernization program to enhance mobility and operational capabilities. Currently, the U.S. military operates a large fleet of tactical vehicles, including 108,800 FMTVs, over 27,000 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTTs), 4,079 M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporters, and 25,000 M939 series 5-ton trucks. The FMTV A2 trucks are known for their advanced protection, durability, and ability to handle various military missions. The latest orders continue Oshkosh’s long-standing partnership with the U.S. Army, delivering reliable vehicles for national defense.

The first contract, valued at $43.6 million, is a firm-fixed-price agreement with completion expected by December 30, 2026. The second contract, a $23.3 million modification, involves work in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with a completion date of September 30, 2026. The third contract, worth $14.8 million, is another firm-fixed-price agreement, set to finish by August 31, 2026. The largest contract, valued at $133 million, is for M1093 and M1081 FMTVs, with completion expected by September 30, 2027. The FY 2025 program, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, allocates $153.5 million for 240 FMTVs and trailers to meet the 8-ton truck requirement and support Army modularity goals. In previous years, $233.9 million was invested for 277 units in FY 2023, followed by $142.9 million for 253 units in FY 2024. These contracts aim to modernize the Army’s medium fleet, reduce sustainment costs, and enhance operational performance through engineering improvements and the recapitalization of Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTVs).

The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) includes 4×4 Light Medium Tactical Vehicles (LMTV) and 6×6 Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTV). The LMTV cargo variant has a payload capacity of 2,268 kg and features a 275 hp Caterpillar C7 7.2-liter diesel engine, while the MTV cargo variant carries 4,535 kg with a 330 hp version of the same engine. Both variants use an Allison 3700 SP 7-speed automatic transmission, power-assisted front axle steering, and parabolic tapered leaf spring suspension with telescopic shock absorbers. They have a 212-liter fuel capacity, an operational range of 483 km, and a 94 km/h maximum speed. Designed under the U.S. Army Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS), the FMTVs feature modular armor with A-kit/B-kit configurations for protection. Additionally, these vehicles are C-130 transportable and can be carried via helicopter sling load, enhancing their battlefield mobility.

The FMTV provides the U.S. Army with versatile, durable, and easily transportable vehicles, enhancing mission flexibility, troop mobility, and logistics support.
