Damen Unveils LSS 9000 & LSS 11000: Versatile Naval Support Ships

Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a new series of naval support vessels, the Logistics Support Ship (LSS) range, designed to enhance the operational capabilities of modern navies. The series includes two models: the LSS 9000, measuring 127 meters, and the LSS 11000, at 140 meters in length. Damen’s new Logistics Support Ships (LSS) will feature NATO-standard replenishment at sea (RAS) systems, Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) capabilities, and large cargo capacity to support naval operations. Equipped with modern navigation and communication systems, these vessels ensure safe and efficient missions in various maritime conditions.

The LSS will play a vital role in naval logistics, enabling the seamless transfer of fuel, munitions, provisions, and personnel. Designed for extended deployments, they allow fleets to operate far from home ports without frequent resupply. These ships strengthen naval presence in strategic maritime areas by providing critical support to combatant vessels and enabling naval power projection by ensuring operational readiness and efficiency.

The Logistics Support Ships feature a modular design, allowing for quick configuration and upgrades to meet different operational needs. These ships can support disaster relief, humanitarian missions, and naval training exercises, making them highly adaptable for various roles. Built for versatile operations, the LSS can function in both open ocean and coastal waters. Its advanced engineering and hybrid military-commercial technology ensure efficient performance with lower operational (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) costs. This combination enhances reliability, cost-effectiveness, and long-term value for naval forces worldwide.

The LSS 9000 and LSS 11000 are designed for extended naval operations. With a speed of 18 knots and a crew of 57, these vessels can travel up to 10,000 nautical miles at cruising speed, with an endurance of 26-30 days. The ships can support helicopter operations and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), equipped with a hangar and helideck. Their onboard technology includes a 3D/4D Surveillance Radar (100km range) and tactical data links (Links 16 and 22) for secure military communication. For defense, the LSS features a Close-In Weapons System (CIWS), two 20mm remote-controlled guns, two 12.7mm heavy machine guns, and up to four decoy systems. The Aft Mission Bay can be converted into temporary accommodation for 80 personnel for up to 96 hours, enhancing mission flexibility. These capabilities make the LSS series a powerful asset for naval logistics, defense, and multi-role operations.
