Sweden Announces its Biggest Military Support Package for Ukraine Worth $1.59 Billion

The Swedish Government has unveiled its 19th and largest military support package for Ukraine, valued at nearly 15.9 billion Swedish kronor ($1.59 billion). This new package brings Sweden’s total support to Ukraine to almost $8 billion since the conflict began in 2022.

A significant portion of the package, $920 million, is earmarked for acquiring military goods from various European defence companies. These acquisitions will include ammunition, infantry equipment, air and maritime defence systems, armoured vehicles, and satellite systems, all aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s operational defence capabilities.

In collaboration with Denmark, the package also includes $500 million in donations to support Ukraine’s domestic defence procurement. Additionally, the Swedish Armed Forces will donate $500 million worth of available equipment and material, including medical services vehicles, training weapons for m/86 anti-tank systems, m/58 machine guns, small-arms ammunition, approximately 100 air base maintenance vehicles, base and workshop equipment, medical equipment, transport vehicles, personal equipment, provisions, and foodstuffs.

The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) will contribute approximately $1 million for CBRN-analysis and drone vehicle detection. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration will receive funds to identify and implement technical innovations requested by Ukraine. To mitigate risks for Swedish companies exporting to Ukraine, export credit guarantees worth $50 million will be provided.

Furthermore, nearly $60 million will be allocated for the maintenance and operational support of Swedish military material already donated to Ukraine. An additional $14 million will support civil defence efforts, involving various Swedish civil defence agencies.

Sweden has adjusted its budget, moving 2026 funds forward and laid out a plan to invest a total of approximately $4 billion towards Ukraine in 2025. The Swedish Government has highlighted the necessity for Europe to bolster its support of Ukraine, claiming that the security of Europe depends on it.
