Iveco Launches Guarani 6×6 SHORAD Vehicle Featuring SAAB RBS 70 NG
The latest air defence model of Guarani 6×6 amphibious armored vehicle came out at the LAAD 2025 defense exhibition recently held in Rio de Janeiro. The vehicles role is as a short-range air defense (SHORAD) platform equipped with SAAB RBS 70 missiles that can engage drones, helicopters and low-flying aircraft. Existing variants of the Guarani 6×6 include troop transports and command centers with reconnaissance and mortar carriers.
The newly developed short-range air defense version comes equipped with the SAAB RBS 70 NG missile system. The system features thermal imaging along with automatic target tracking capabilities that deliver precise night-time and daytime effectiveness during operations. The Brazilian Army already widely fields the Guarani 6×6 platform, entering production in 2012 through a cooperation between Iveco and the Brazilian Army’s Technological Center (CTEx) with its current roles including troop movement together with reconnaissance functions and command and control capabilities and mortar support capabilities.

The flexible platform design features amphibious functions alongside STANAG Level 2 ballistic protection which makes it suitable for conducting multiple missions. The SHORAD variant introduces new capabilities that serve as a major advancement toward the modernization goals of the Brazilian Army. This upgrade will make Brazil’s defense capabilities stronger against aerospace assaults without compromising Guarani platform mobility, survivability and adaptability in missions.
The battle-tested SAAB RBS 70 uses laser beam-riding guidance to achieve effectiveness against jamming attempts and flare countermeasures. It continues to function at accurate targeting levels despite electronic warfare conditions which cause other systems to fail. The latest RBS 70 NG (New Generation) version combines state-of-the-art optics with thermal imaging and automatic target tracking systems. The Bolide missile can target aerial targets within ranges up to 9 kilometers flying at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters. The Guarani SHORAD variant will provide Brazil with as significant increase in its air defense capabilities and play a crucial role in modernizing Brazil’s military capabilities.
